Barbie Pink Guava

Psidium guajava

Matt's 9b field note

“'One of the best tasting guavas there is.' Newly planted.”

Background

A Florida-bred pink-fleshed guava cultivar (Psidium guajava 'Barbie Pink'); detailed breeding history is thin in public sources. Marketed as one of the best home-garden guavas; closely similar to 'Ruby Supreme' but with larger fruit and lighter pink flesh.

Distinguishing traits

Pear-shaped, yellow-skinned fruit with thick pink flesh; sweet and tangy with strawberry hints; lower in pectin than many pink guavas, so good for fresh eating and juice. Self-pollinating; fragrant white blooms; coppery peeling bark.
